    @williamrblack @erin_bartram Having written a post similar to @kawulf’s on skimming, I think it’s worth comparing what we do in a grad seminar to what a casual reader does in a bookstore. The casual reader has a checklist of things to judge whether to READ read the book (blurbs, title, first pages). +

      @williamrblack @erin_bartram @kawulf As beginning academics we are trained to expand that checklist, adding things to it that would not be on the casual reader’s list, but we are engaged in a similar enterprise: figuring out whether it’s “for me” & I need to read it in more depth, what other books it’s in convo with
