  1. Part of what the #1619Project tries to do, especially lead essay by @nhannahjones, is expand our notion of who counts as "the Founders." James Forten didn't see slavery as a necessary evil. Or Richard Allen, or Absalom Jones. jstor.org/stable/4491598

      This is why the project can useful in the classroom, as a way of engaging students in the questions of who "the Founders" were, who counts as having founded the nation.
