@romiesworld1 The year is a clue! In 1867 Congress took charge of Reconstruction, and Unionist/Republican governors across the South turned back some of the "Black Codes" that ex-Confederates had passed in 1865 and 1866 to ensnare freedpeople.

@romiesworld1 If your ancestor was sentenced under one of those reactionary "Black Codes," then the rise of Congressional (sometimes aka Radical Reconstruction) could have brought about pardon. If the document says who the governor was at the time, that might help confirm this theory.
