      1. 1. I sometimes hear historians argue "students in intro classes don't need historiography." I find different approach in science classes.

      2. In both science classes I've observed for #RiceFODays, profs spent time recreating experiments done in 1917, 1930s, etc.

    3. They want students to see how we've come to know what we know, instead of just telling them what we know. Ensures better understanding.

      4. It's for similar reasons that in my Civil War class, for ex., I talk about what Craven or Randall said, & how DuBois or Stampp replied.
